There are some activities run by healthcare professionals within some leisure centres in Essex, who work alongside coaches, leisure staff and external clubs to provide sporting opportunities to people with and without disabilities. Find out more where and when they are.


D4S (Disability4Sport) provide a wide range of sporting opportunities and activities that are aimed at engaging and empowering disabled people of all ages and abilities, with the intention of improving physical health and mental well-being. Livewell Colchester is supporting D4S to set up football sessions for those with hearing impairment and young people living with families affected by hearing impairment.

Blind Spot Mersea Island Club for the visually impaired
The club provides an opportunity for people living on Mersea Island who are registered partially sighted to meet socially and keep up to date with current developments in research and equipment for those with a visual impairment.Monthly meetings take place on 1st Sat of each month with guest speakers, refreshments and raffle. Epping Forest

Active Living is a brand new free healthy active lifestyle programme for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. In the weekly session, there is 20 minutes of theory activities to raise awareness for lifestyle choices such as healthy eating, health and hygiene, healthy relationships and friendships and more. The aim of the programme is to keep these adults active and to also help them get a better understanding of how to live a healthy active lifestyle.
