Find activities and events to keep the kids entertained (and active) this summer in Essex. From cycling , fishing, swimming, football and kids camps, there’s something for everyone!

Sport for confidence sessions

Sessions running at four leisure centres across Essex and providing opportunities for young people aged 0-25 years to take part in a range of fully adaptive, accessible sporting activities including multi sports, dodgeball, boccia and New Age Kurling. Every session will be delivered by a health professional and a sports coach to ensure the needs of each individual are catered for. Carers and siblings are also very welcome to attend and get involved.

Sessions begin week commencing July 23 and run for six weeks at the following venues:

  • Basildon Sporting Village, Friday 1.30-3.30pm
  • Witham Leisure Centre, Monday 1.30-3.30pm
  • Hadleigh Park, Monday 1.30pm – 3.00pm
  • Waterside Farm Leisure Centre, Canvey Island Wednesday 1.00pm-3.00pm
Basildon Borough
  • Summer fun at Barleylands– Each week at Barleylands, throughout the summer, an amazing selection of animal encounters and craft activities will be unveiled, meaning it’s worth coming weekly, just to make sure you don’t miss out on all the wholesome family fun on offer.
  • South Essex gymnastics Club fun sessions Fun sessions run every half term and end of term. Children have to be over the age of 5 to attend but children aged 4 and above are able to attend on a Friday between 10am-12pm.
Braintree District

  • Junior fishing and coaching in Kelvedon Exciting new venture for junior anglers in Essex! Would you like to try fishing? Would you like to try coaching? Then this is for you!   • Sky Ropes at Great Notley Country Park –  Feel the thrill and reach unforgettable heights with family and friends.
  • Xplorer events – A family friendly navigation challenge that is educational and fun and gives children a sense of adventure as they explore their local parks.

    Tuesday 7th August- Halstead Public Gardens- 11am to 1pm and 2 to 4pm
    Tuesday 14th August- Braintree and Bocking Public Gardens- 11am to 1pm and 2 to 4pm
  • All stars cricket games outside Glebe Hall– Greenfields Community Housing and Essex Cricket in the Community have teamed up to offer free weekly cricket sessions in Braintree to 30 lucky children and their parents. Open to all Greenfields residents in Braintree on a first come, first served basis- free sessions every Tuesday starting on 24th July
  • Swim school in Braintree, Witham and Halstead – join now and get free swimming all summer (T&Cs apply)- See Fusion website for more details
  • Trampolining taster sessions throughout this summer at Braintree Sports and Health Club and Halstead Leisure Centre

Brentwood Borough
  • Try the high ropes and adventure Rope runners at the secret nuclear bunker in Kelvedon Hatch: they are adrenaline- filled activities on new courses for anyone over 6 years old.
  • BIkeKlubz Saturday sessions-BikeKlubz offers children and young people, between the ages of 4 and 24, to take part in a range of cycle-related games and group rides. Cost is just £5 per person and family and friends are encouraged to join the rides for free.
  • Family Fun Days– they run every Friday over the Summer holidays and are very popular with lots of free activities.
Castle Point
Colchester Borough

Become a roman explorer this summer- Colchester Castle will be hosting a series of Roman Invader interactive sessions. Designed to capture the imagination, the programme helps children discover the archaeology of a grisly past through these fun sessions. Trampolining
Tuesday 31 July, Tuesday 14 August and Tuesday 28 August
Sessions at 11-30am-12.30pm and 12.30-1.30pm
Get jumping and learn trampoline basic moves. Suitable for children aged 3-11 years. £6 per child per session.

Base Camp
Weekdays: Monday 23 July – Friday 31 August
8am-5.30pm
A full day of action packed supervised activities for children in school years 7-11.  Ideal for working parents.  Activities include fun in the Leisure Pool, trips to RollerWorld and Tenpin, multi sports, trampolining and a trip to the cinema.

Kids Camp
Weekdays: Monday 23 July – Friday 31 August
8am-5.30pm or 9am-3pm
A full day of action packed supervised activities for children in school years 1-6, which includes swimming as a core part of the day’s activities. Ideal for working parents.

Chelmsford City
  • Half day and full day city camps throughout the school holidays for children between aged between 4 and 12 at Riverside Leisure Centre, South Woodham Ferrers Leisure Centre and Dovedale Sports Centre.
  • Active Fun sessions during the school holidays, giving children the chance to learn new skills and get active in a fun environment.
  • Spend your summer with the School of Golf : at Little Channels, Chelmsford, 25th July to 17th August or at Belfairs, Leigh on Sea, 31st July to 28th August.
Epping Forest

Harlow District

The town’s paddling pools will open from Monday 23 July until Sunday 2 September 2018.

Holiday activities at Harlow Leisurezone: lots of great fun activities for kids to enjoy during the holiday, from multi activity days, craft sessions, aqua jets, trampolining, go karting and bouncy castle.

Maldon District

Premier Sport Holiday multi activity courses at Blackwater Leisure Centre  for ages 5-12 from 23rd July to 31st August.

Blackwater Leisure Centre Children’s holiday camps – from 8.30am – 3.30pm each day, but you can book extended days up to 5.30pm for an additional charge (excluding weekends and bank holidays). It is for children aged 5 yrs up to 11 years.

Rochford  District

Rayleigh Leisure Centre

Felsted School squash 
Try our three-day squash course for new and improving players. Acquire and develop skills in this fast-paced, fun and exciting game. It also offers children, who have never played the sport before, the chance to try a new sport that improves agility, hand-eye coordination and fitness. For ages 8-15.
