Emotional wellbeing and mental health service

The Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Service (EWMHS) provides advice and support to children, young people and families who are in need of support with their emotional wellbeing or mental health difficulties.

The service covers Southend, Essex and Thurrock and is open to young people between the ages of 0-18, or up to 25 for those with special educational needs.

Any child or young person experiencing mental health difficulties as well as any parent, guardian or professional can access the service for help and guidance.

The service offers both individual and group talking therapies such as:

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
  • DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy)
  • Trauma focused therapies
  • Play based therapies
  • Art therapy
  • Psycho-dynamic therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Medication

As well as referrals to other organisations.

How to access this service

  • This service can be accessed by seeing your GP.
  • During working hours (9am-5pm, Monday – Friday) you can call this new telephone number 0800 953 0222 to get in touch directly.This is a Freephone number.  If you call out of hours, please use the new 0800 number which will divert you to our main switchboard.
  • The service is available to children and young people, and their families or carers, across Essex to access mental health and emotional wellbeing care and support.
  • If service users call the old number, 0300 300 1600, they will hear a message confirming the new Freephone number and be asked to redial.
