‘Know the signs’ lung cancer programme in Jaywick

Figures show that in 2016 the Jaywick area had a considerably higher rate of suspected lung cancer than England as a whole.

Essex County Council is working with Green Elms Medical Centre in Jaywick to help local people ‘know the signs’ of lung cancer.

They also want to show local people that with early detection a cancer diagnosis can have a positive outcome .

What symptoms should you look out for?
  •  Having a cough most of the time (And more than 3 weeks)
  • A change in a cough you have had for a long time
  • Being short of breath
  • Coughing up phlegm (sputum) with signs of blood in it
  • An ache or pain in the chest or shoulder
  • Loss of appetite
  • Tiredness (fatigue)
  • Losing weight
