Support For Carers
There are 180,000 unpaid carers in Essex, these are usually friends or family who provide help and support for someone who can’t look after themselves due to factors such as age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.
You might care for a child with additional needs, partner, relative, friend or neighbour who wouldn’t manage with your help. Perhaps you’re a young carer, under 18, looking after a parent or sibling.
Caring for someone can be stressful and it is important to reach out for support when you need it, here are some helpful support services for unpaid carers:
Action For Family Carers
Action for Family Carers is an Essex charity, which for over 25 years, has been providing information and support to Carers who have unpaid caring responsibilities for others.
Carers First is a UK registered charity working with unpaid carers to provide practical information and advice. We understand the challenges unpaid carers face and offer services designed to make it easier for them to continue living their lives to the fullest.
Essex Befriending Service
Essex Befriends offers free adult befriending services to Carers, older people and those with mental ill health or a learning disability.
Essex Carer Support
Essex Carers Support was established to support carers across North Essex. Over the years they have grown to cover a larger area and today are proud to be a registered charity offering help to carers across the county.
Through our carers’ groups and volunteers we’re reaching out in local communities throughout the UK and online. If you’re new to caring, we want to make sure you get the right support from the start.
Carers Trust is a major charity for, with and about carers. We work to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. Our vision is that unpaid carers count and can access the help they need to live their lives.
Taking a break from caring
