Autumn is here and Stop.Swap.GO! is continuing to support Essex residents to build long term sustainable travel habits towards walking, cycling and using the bus.
As the evenings get a bit darker and chillier, Stop.Swap.GO! will be working closely with the Safer Roads Essex Partnership (SERP) to share up to date information on keeping safe and seen as you get out and about.
Families and young people are also encouraged to keep walking and cycling to school or college, particularly as nature’s colours begin to change. Your usual route will soon look completely different and what better way to take it all in than a daily stroll or cycle?
The Stop.Swap.GO!website is packed with information to help families avoid traffic chaos at peak times. With helpful routes outlined for each school or college and ‘Drive and Drop’ zones highlighted to reduce congestion at the gates.
It’s never too early to learn and practice good road safety and SERP have great resources online to support families in building good road safety habits. Walking and cycling to school or college is not only great for boosting concentration and productivity in the classroom; it also provides an opportunity to train young people to stay alert and look out for one another. Stop.Swap.GO! fully encourages families and friends to walk and cycle more regularly. There is a wealth of resources on the SERP website to help build travel confidence and knowledge in young people across Essex.
Stop.Swap.GO! also continues the 60 Day Challenge to encourage Essex residents to keep up their walking and cycling. Participants complete small daily tasks and log their progress on a handy app. There are even weekly prizes to be won and lots of great tips on the website to help you get out and about without your car.
The importance of keeping fit and healthy as we enter flu season is particularly acute this year. Walking and cycling regularly has shown to improve heart and lung health over time, and with the season changing, it’s a fantastic time to get out and explore your local environment. Essex has some great parks and recreational spaces to be enjoyed so you can have fun with the family while at the same time working to boost your immune system.
